Dia de los Muertos
November 2 - 17, 2024
~ ~ ~
We've Missed You!

If you've wondered where we've been for the past several months, we were forced to close temporarily due to building construction. A portion of our space was included in the construction and is now almost 100% complete. We have been working hard for a week to get the gallery ready to welcome you all back again!
As you may know, Dia de los Muertos is our annual traditional event when we gather together to honor and remember deceased loved ones. It is also a celebration commemorating our gallery's annual anniversary. Since the community looks forward to and appreciates honoring Dia de los Muertos every year at Raices, we have decided to continue hosting this celebration and community potluck this year. With such a short time to plan, this year's celebration will be on a much smaller scale than previous years but will be just as sincere nonetheless.
Since we did not have a definite completion date for the building construction, a Call for Artists for Dia de los Muertos was not sent out sooner. We are therefore asking for your help to make this year's Dia de los Muertos successful; if you have any original artwork completed within the last 3 years that would be appropriate for Dia de los Muertos, we invite you to submit it for this celebration. Paintings, sculpture, photography & mixed media works are welcome. If you would like to set up a personal tribute or remembrance in the form of altar or ofrenda, please contact us ASAP for information.
-
Please remember that that Dia de los Muertos is not Halloween. Submitted entries should adhere to and reflect the traditional and celebratory aspects associated with Dia de los Muertos
-
In order to keep the celebration sincere and non-commercial, please refrain from submitting images not traditionally associated with Dia de los Muertos as celebrated in southern Arizona and Mexico. Examples of non-traditional images include photos of parades, images portraying zombie calaveras and skulls with sewn mouths as well as inappropriate images for children and families.
